Fiscal and Labour Policy Institutions and Inequality

Project Description

The overall aim of this SEEK project is to establish the field of research Regional Labour and Public Economics as an interdisciplinary topic at ZEW. Analysis carried out in this new field of research shall focus firstly, on the incidence of regionally homogeneous fiscal and labour market policies in view of disparities in local conditions and, secondly, on the distributional consequences of regionally differentiated instruments for individuals and regions. A micro-econometric focus, relying on linked individual and regional level data, shall be taken.
The project combines the competencies of the ZEW Research Units Labour Markets, Human Resources and Social Policy, and International Distribution and Redistribution to create a new field of research. The project promotes the careers of postgraduates at ZEW, enlarges the international research network and the data infrastructure of the institute. Finally it contributes insights on socially relevant topics, such as how individual states and the European Union can better ensure less inequality in terms of the living conditions across, and within regions.
